Create wonderful and lasting memories on our farm
At Camp SHINE your child(ren) may find themselves connecting with the land, with the animals, and with other children while they build relationships and joyful memories. Fall in love with nature, forge new friendships, learn new skills and enjoy the beauty and magic of childhood.
We will be weaving the SHINE Curriculum into an appreciation of the outdoors as your children learn practical tools for resiliency, emotional intelligence, conscious leadership/kindness and discovering how to listen to their own inner voice.
Camp is open to children from Kindergarten through 5th (incoming 6th) graders.

A little taste of
What Camp SHINE is about
Located in the hills of Martinez, CA, we enjoy farm life with chickens, mini ponies, horses, pigs, goats and a bunny! It is not uncommon for the children to enjoy art or chat with a chicken tucked under their arm. We collect eggs, groom ponies, tend to the garden and learn about all the responsibilities of running a small farm. The children LOVE spending time on the farm! Each day at summer camp, the children visit the farm with plenty of time to really enjoy all the animals and garden.
We teach children about how our health is directly connected to the earth and what we put in and on our body! At Camp SHINE, we love bringing the tradition of holistic health by educating our youth on how to use herbs, plants and our natural world to support our bodies to be healthy and strong. We love bringing in guest health experts such as Andrea Telfer Karbo FNP, a functional practitioner and founder of The Remedy who has taught us how to make elderberry syrup from our trees on the farm and Dr. Levy, a very renowned Naturopathic Dr. who teaches us about how food is used to fuel our bodies. We’ve had Anna from East Bay Herbals who shares with us how to use plants to heal the body such as the power of herbal tea! Our bodies given a great environment will be healthy and thrive!
Horsemanship & Riding
Through working with horses, children experience being calm and confident leaders. They discover reading the language of a horse and how to be aware of their surroundings, a huge life skill! They also learn horse safety, how to groom, tend, and ride a horse. We have one horse dedicated day per session. This typically takes place on a Tuesday or Thursday.
Mindfulness & Connection & Leadership
There’s nothing better than experiencing the peace of being outdoors. We love to do quiet solo sit spots or solo walks (a short path that is explored alone on our hike (always supervised), investigating all the beauty that surrounds us without distraction. We love weaving in quick mediations, mindfulness, Emotional Freedom Technique (tapping) and opportunities to soothe our nervous system. We also love exploring our super powers of self-responsibility, self awareness, kindness, self advocacy, and the power of choice! We seek to build the next generation of leaders, critical thinkers, and to cultivate a culture of thoughtfulness and kindness. We love seeking ways we can take your child’s ideas and make them the teacher or the leader! We believe we all have unique gifts and talents and are here to spread our unique shine. We love seeing your child shine…it’s why we are here.
Nature-Inspired Art & Creativity
We love having nature as our muse! We do not do your typical “kid art” projects and we think that even adults would really love the art we explore! We love to use high quality, natural products to create works of art that are inspiring and beautiful. They may create walking sticks, assemble and paint bird houses, create pottery, do natural dying, nature weaves, string art, learn to make soap and so much more! We often bring in the experts in their field to teach the children a new skill set they can enjoy for years to come.
Guest Teachers & Activities
Each week on Wednesdays we have either a guest teacher or a special focus for the week. These change each summer and are a surprise, so you may sign up not knowing your mystery guest or activity, but we promise it to be something special that enriches your heart, mind and body! ! In the past they have included:
– Pottery teachers, teaching us the joy of clay!
– Naturopathic physicians/Functional Docs teaching about our natural world and how it relates to healthy bodies!
– Horticulturists showing us how to make shelter
– Herbalist demonstrating how plants can heal the body.
– Bee Keepers, teaching us about the complexity of bees and our ecosystem.
– Reptile exhibits discovering the wonderful world of snakes, tortoises and geckos!
– Making elderberry syrup from our trees in late July/August to prepare to support our immune systems through the winter.

– Making something special from the garden

Dig into the
Freedom & exploration in a safe and nurturing environment.
All while enjoying the great outdoors, we weave in the SHINE Curriculum, teaching the kids the power in their choices. We share with the kids the freedom in self responsibility, self-awareness, and the art of self-counseling. We create a safe and friendly environment for the kids to express themselves. We are dedicated to creating a culture of kindness, where people are celebrated and valued. We instill in the children that they are born special! Our goal is to help create resilient and self-assured children so they can shine as they were born to do!
In addition, the philosophy and the foundation of our program is that it is child lead. Although we have clear activities and plans, we always leave plenty of room for the creative imagination and child lead activities. We are here to light a spark as opposed to filling a bucket!
We also believe that true health stems from a deep connected to nature and realizing our part in our ecosystem. Our mission is to help children take excellent care of our planet and enjoy/appreciate the beauty that surrounds us all.

We have had many kids come to camp “alone” but the environment of camp makes it easy to make friends. Our staff is also trained to look for kiddos who need help connecting. No child will ever be left standing alone! EVER! We find many campers meet new friends that are lasting and continue outside of camp 😊

How do you handle horse safety and riding?
We do our best to create a safe environment, however it is important to note, that all animals are unpredictable. We mitigate risk by teaching the children about horses’ safety and how to create an environment that is safe for ourselves and the horse. When your child interacts with the horse it is supervised and 1 to 1.
